Over winter I've been attempting to grow salad leaves in the poly tunnel.
This is something I tried last year on my winter - this was a huge fail as my seedlings went leggy and flopped over... :p
Fast forward to winter 2024-2025 and I'm trying it again.
Living with Max, I now have access to a (better) and local poly tunnel. We live off-grid and even though we do create our own electricity via solar panels this winter turned out to be particularly grey and overcast. This resulted in us using the generator and made us think about our power usage. - Quite a fewer viewers on my Youtube channel grow lights/heaters and that is why I chose not to use them.
Never-the-less I was quite surprised and happy to discover that I was able to keep the salad leaves alive over the winter months. I built a 2nd hoop house inside the poly tunnel and this I think gave my salad leaves the extra protection that allowed them to survive through the winter.
